Inspired by Oya is an original improvised movement piece commissioned for the album release of musician, Kate Quinby, who had to relocate to Chicago following Hurricane Katrina. This piece is a response to Hurricane Katrina and the current global environmental crisis as seen through the eyes of Oya. Oya, literally meaning she tore, is queen of the River Niger and is looked upon as a water goddess known to represent winds, lightning, and violent storms, death and rebirth.
