Food and The Soul was created from a collection of interviews which were recorded and transcribed and turned into a devised performance about identity, community and our relationship with food. The stories collected from people around the country, explored the rituals of food in order to more deeply experience participation and authenticity in daily life. I was interested in re-examining the role of food in our current social and cultural conventions, by taking a critical look at the industrial-food complex and its effects on communities and the body through collected personal stories.
This piece was originally workshopped as part of the Chicago Home Theatre Festival in April 2013.
It was performed in May 2013 at the Jackalope Theatre and the Glenwood Farmer’s Market in Rogers Park.
